Caps beat Leafs in shootout

Toronto Maple Leafs in Washington, taking on Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals.

Early first, Daniel Winnink with the steal and the score. 1-0 Leafs. Winnik did leave the game with an apparent knee injury soon after though.

Moments later, the Caps are pressing and Justin Williams with the shot but what a save by James Reimer.

It’s still 1-0 Leafs in the second period when, with the Caps on the powerplay, “The Great Eight” scores to tie it at 1.

In the third period, it’s the Leafs on the powerplay. Morgan Reilly puts it on goal and James Van Riemsdyk scores to put the Leafs up 2-1.

Then, with the clock ticking down, the Caps score with point 8 seconds left to tie it, Backstrom with the tying marker.

Overtime solved nothing.

So, in the shootout Nazem Kadri needs to score to keep this one going but Holtby stops him.

Leafs pick up a point but lose in a shootout 3-2.
