Candidate registration opens for the 2022 Ontario municipal elections

Today was the first official day candidates running in the Hamilton municipal election were able to submit their nominations.
The former head of Hamiltons Chamber of Commerce, Keanin Loomis has filed his papers to vie to become the city’s mayor.
“Citizens and businesses have done so many great things and city hall has been the impediment, so that’s why I decided to step up,” said Loomis.
Hamilton’s current mayor, Fred Eisenberger hasn’t decided on whether he will run but says he will make his decision after the provincial election in June.
Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion’s Kojo Damptey rallied with his supporters following his registration for the Ward 14 seat, currently held by Terry Whitehead.
“Everybody has lost trust in council, so transparency is at the top of the list,” said Damtey.
Resident Cameron Kroetsch will try for current Ward 2 councillor Jason Farr’s seat. Farr is attempting to win a seat in the provincial legislature for the Liberals.
Kroetsch served on the chair of the city’s LGBTQ committee and he says making downtown accessible for everyone is his goal.
Mayoral candidate Bob Bratina says he did not file for his nomination yet, but will likely do so next week.
So far there have been 7 city hall candidates who have filed their nominations.
