Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse has captured gold at the Tokyo Olympics.

De Grasse ran a national record time of 19.62 seconds to win the 200-metre final.

This is Canada’s first gold in the 200-metre race in 93 years.

The medal is De Grasse’s second of Tokyo 2020 and his second straight Olympic medal in the 200, following a silver at Rio 2016.

The 26-year-old from Markham, Ont. edged out American’s Kenneth Bednarek and Noah Lyles.
