Canadian women’s national soccer team captain, Christine Sinclair, has been shortlisted for FIFA’s women’s player.

Sinclair is the most successful soccer player to ever compete for Canada, accumulating more than 160 international career goals.

The 33-year-old soccer star from Burnaby, B.C was named Canada Soccer’s female Player of the Year 11 straight times from 2004 to 2014 and is a multiple time nominee for FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year.

The other candidates are Camille Abily (France), Melanie Behringer (Germany), Sara Dabritz (Germany), Amandine Henry (France), Saki Kumagai (Japan), Dzsenifer Marozsan (Germany), Marta (Brazil), Lotta Schelin (Sweden) and Carli Lloyd (U.S.).

Lloyd won the award in 2015 after helping the U.S Women’s National team clinch the World Cup title.

The winner will be chosen through a combined voting process, in which 50 per cent of the decision is based on the choices of captains and head coaches from women’s national teams around the world. The other 50 per cent will be determined by an online public ballot and submissions from over 200 media representatives from around the globe.

The winner will be announced January 9 in Zurich at the FIFA football awards ceremony.
