A plane carrying 129 Canadians who were trapped aboard a coronavirus-stricken cruise ship in Japan has landed in Ontario.

The plane touched down at CFB Trenton Friday morning.

Passengers of the chartered flight will spend two more weeks in quarantine at the NAV Centre in Cornwall before returning to their communities.

Public health authorities say only healthy Canadians were allowed to fly back. In total, 621 people on board the Diamond Princess tested positive for the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. Among them, 43 Canadians, including two from Port Dover, who all have to stay behind in Japanese health facilities.

Rose Yerex of Port Dover shared photos to a Port Dover Facebook Group of what she called her “new digs.”

“We are fine, but thank you to everyone that is staying in touch,” Yerex said in the post. “Your concern and contact with us is helping us through this difficult time.”
