Canadian military vehicles to train on Hamilton highways this weekend

Motorists in Hamilton and surrounding cities can expect to see military vehicles on some major highways this weekend as the Canadian Army Reserve conducts training.

Personnel from 31 Service Battalion will train in the Hamilton, London, Kingston and Ottawa areas.

The public may see military vehicles travelling on the QEW, Highway 7, Highway 41, Highway 401, Highway 407, Highway 417 and Highway 418.

The army says this is regular, scheduled training that keeps units ready to respond to missions in Canada such as floods and wildfires.

Lt. AJ McLaughlin says this training is necessary to maintain skills in convoy drills, as well as encourage unit cohesion and discipline.

Participating personnel will conduct planned short and longer halts throughout the duration of the exercise, stopping for rest, fuel and scheduled maintenance.

McLaughlin says activities are planned for Friday until Sunday and all measures are being taken to ensure minimum inconvenience to those in the area.

“Members of the public are asked to take extra caution when approaching military vehicles,” McLaughlin said.

“And are thanked in advance for their understanding and co-operation.”
