Statistics Canada’s latest report shows the national inflation rate jumped to 2.6 per cent in February – up 1.9 per cent from the month before.

The increase comes shortly after the federal government ended its two-month sales tax holiday, which saw GST and HST taken off a variety of goods and services.

StatCan calculations show that without the tax break, inflation would have landed around 3 per cent in February.

The consumer price index (CPI) also rose in every province last month, with Ontario and New Brunswick seeing the sharpest increases.
