Canada’s highest court to define “terrorist activity”
Canada’s high court has agreed to hear an appeal that challenges
the Criminal Code’s definition of “terrorist activity.”
The appeal was launched by Momin Khawaja, an Ottawa man who was the first person ever charged under Canada’s anti-terror laws and is now serving a life sentence.
The definition requires terrorist conduct to be performed for political, religious or ideological reasons.
Khawaja argues that infringes the Charter right to express religious beliefs and political opinions.
