The Canada and U.S. border closure has been extended to Aug. 20.

The border has been closed to non-essential travel since mid-March.

The extension comes as COVID-19 cases are on the rise in the U.S.

Southern states like Florida, Arizona and California are facing a fresh crisis, with overcrowded hospital wards and another shortage of personal protective medical gear.
