Canada to purchase U.S. made missile defence system for Ukraine

The Prime Minister’s office has announced it is purchasing a U.S.-made missile defence system for Ukraine.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez hosted Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Joe Biden at the North American Leaders’ Summit in Mexico City. The first official meeting of the day was a one-on-one between Trudeau and Biden, where the men spoke of the importance of strengthening U.S. and Canadian supply chains.

The bigger headlines came out when the Prime Minister’s office revealed Trudeau had told Biden that Canada would purchase a U.S.-made missile defence system for Ukraine where air defence systems are a top need.

The department of defence says it will cost Canada $406M.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took to Twitter to thank Canada:

 

The readout also revealed Biden accepted an invitation to visit Canada in March, his long-awaited first presidential visit to our country.

Trudeau and Biden then joined Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador for trilateral talks. President Biden began his remarks by touting the importance of the relationship between America, Mexico and Canada, and the challenge of handling immigration from Latin America into the states.
