Canada is spared from Trump’s tariff on steel & aluminium… for now

President Donald Trump has ordered steep new tariffs on steel and aluminium imports to the U.S. that will go into effect for the rest of the world in 15 days. But the President says he will exempt Canada and Mexico as “a special case” while negotiating for changes to the North American Free Trade Agreement. The NAFTA talks are expected to resume next month.

Canada is the number one supplier of both steel and aluminium to the U.S. and most of that steel comes from the Hamilton area. It’s believed any tariffs on Canadian steel will have a huge impact on thousands of jobs here.
