Prime Minister Stephen Harper wrapped up his trip to Colombia, where he attended the Summit of the Americas, with the announcement of more money for the region.

The prime minister announced more funding to help Central American countries battle the violence caused by the region’s drug cartels.

Canada will spend $25 million over five years to help the initiative.

In contrast to Harper’s stance, most leaders are interested in decriminalizing illicit drugs.

Many of the countries in attendance also want to end Cuba’s exclusion from the organization of American states, excluding both Canada and the U.S.

Cuba’s membership was suspended back in 1962.
