Camp counsellor charged with sexual assault

A 22 year-old Ancaster man is facing serious sex related charges following an OPP investigation at a summer camp.

Police say the investigation involved a camp counsellor  at the Ryerson Camp which is  located near Turkey Point.

Ryerson Camp is a United Church of Canada camp. On their website it says their goal is the share the biblical message of Jesus. It accepts kids 6 years of age and up.

Police say they received a call yesterday afternoon about an incident that took place at the camp early Thursday morning.

22-year-old Aaron Robert Howe of Ancaster, Ontario is charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

The sexual exploitation charge Police say is because Howe was in a position of authority and trust.

They say Howe has no previous criminal record.

Kids from all over Ontario attend the camp and Police believe there could be more victims.

The camp released a statement late Friday afternoon. They state:

“We can confirm there is an allegation of improper conduct by a member of Ryerson Camp staff. Upon learning of the allegation, Ryerson Camp directors took immediate action, communicating with both the Ontario Provincial Police and staff with the regional Children’s Aid office.”

Police are asking parents of kids who have attended the camp to ask them if know of anything inappropriate happened there.
