A Cambridge resident has been charged with a number of criminal code offences — including sexual assault — after a barricade incident at a Haldimand County home yesterday morning.

Members of the OPP Haldimand Detachment responded around 9:30 a.m. to a residence on Erie Street in Fisherville due to the incident.

Police contained the area with the help of other units, including emergency response, the canine unit and crisis negotiators.

The 47-year-old Cambridge resident was charged with forcible confinement, sexual assault and assault with a weapon, as well as “uttering threats causing bodily harm or death”, assault of a police officer and mischief.

The accused remains in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga at a later date.

Members of the Haldimand OPP Major Crime Unit are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
