Third time’s a charm for the Calgary Stampeders who were named the 2018 Grey Cup champions at Commonwealth Stadium Sunday night.

After losing in the final the past two years, the Stamps beat the Ottawa Redblacks 27-16 in the 106th Grey Cup championship in Edmonton.

It marks Calgary’s first Grey Cup win since 2014. Field conditions in Edmonton were difficult with players struggling to get traction on the slippery turf.

Stampeders receiver Lemar Durant was named top Canadian after making four catches for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Calgary quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell threw two touchdown passes and earned game MVP honours. “It just felt like as an organization we’ve been on top too much not to finish the job for (our fans). They’ve given us everything. It just feels amazing to get it done for the city of Calgary,” said Mitchell.
