Cable TV pioneer dies
Man who founded and owned one of the last and largest independent Canadian cable TV operators dies suddenly.
Owen Boris started up Mountain Cable in 1959.
The cable and internet provider was sold to Shaw Communications in 2009.
Boris was also an active citizen in the community, having sat on numerous boards and committees.
The 79-year-old local businessman was also a philanthropist, recently donating $50-thousand for diagnostic research and $3-million to fund a stem cell vision research chair position at the Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation.
A celebration of his life will be held on May 5th at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.
In lieu of flowers the family’s asked for donations to be made to one of several charities: St. Joseph Hospital Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Hamilton SPCA or the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.
