Nearly 500 taxi drivers clogged traffic around Toronto city hall today, as part of a protest against the ride- sharing app Uber.
The protest took place as the city of Toronto and Uber officials began a court hearing over the legality of the company’s operations. The city is seeking a permanent injunction to shut down Uber’s services. Uber applied for a taxi brokerage licence through the city around a month ago.
The company says it will begin rolling out services in the city of Hamilton in the near future. City officials have met with Uber to discuss a plan that would see regulations met, and public safety and fair competition ensured, when Uber services are rolled out.
