C difficile settlement

A judge has approved a 9-million dollar settlement in a class-action lawsuit over Ontario’s worst outbreak of c. difficile.

The judge says the out-of-court settlement with Burlington’s Joseph Brant Hospital is fair and reasonable.

He says continuing the lawsuit in court would have taken a further toll on the affected families.

91 people died and more than 200 were infected during the C. Difficile outbreak in 2007.

The hospital has not admitted wrong-doing — but has made a number of changes to reduce the risk of future outbreaks.
