C-difficile protest in Niagara Falls

The C-difficile outbreak in Niagara has prompted a protest at the Greater Niagara General Hospital.

They’re upset over the way the Niagara Health System has handled the outbreak, which has now killed 17 people at the Greater Niagara, Welland, and St Catharines General.

The demonstration was organized by Niagara Falls city councillor Wayne Gates who wants answers as to why the deaths weren’t disclosed publicly, until after the outbreaks were declared.

Union members aren’t happy that a U.S. company has been hired and given the responsibility for infection control, and is responsible for cleaning of all patient and common areas at all three hospital sites in Niagara hit by the c-diff outbreak.

Emanuel Carvalho of SEIU Local 1 Canada said his members are feeling ignored.
