The Sound of Music Festival is receiving $400,000 in provincial grants this year to help boost the weeklong event that draws thousands to Burlington’s waterfront every June.

Executive director Dave Miller said the Celebrate Ontario funding of $275,000 has led to new festival offerings, such as the club series, featuring more than 30 bands at downtown bars throughout the week.

The support through Celebrate Ontario was guaranteed to the festival over two years. It received $247,000 last year. The festival will also receive $125,000 from the Ontario Music Fund.

Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival takes place this year from June 11 to 19. The opening weekend features The Cult, Headstones and the Glorious Sons, among other acts.
