Burlington standoff ends with arrest

UpdatedJust before 3:30 Tuesday afternoon, a man who had barricaded himself in a home came out and was arrested.

He had barricaded himself inside a house on Lakeshore Road near Locust Street in downtown Burlington.

A Halton police officer on scene says an off-duty cop tackled the man, after he saw him hit a woman with a beer bottle. He ran into the house and barricaded himself. The tactical unit was called in and he eventually surrendered to police.

The man has been taken to hospital.
