Burlington residents get flood relief update

As fundraising for Burlington flood relief enters the final weeks of the 100 day campaign, a town hall meeting was held Tuesday night to help those affected by this summer’s flooding get financial assistance.
Many Burlington residents suffered serious damage to their homes after a severe rain storm in August. The Burlington Community Foundation Relief Committee says they’ll be helping people prepare their claims. So far, about 40 claims have been filed and the deadline to do so is fast approaching.
Colleen Mulholland, Burlington Community Foundation: “The deadline for submission is December the 15th. So after December the 15th, we’ll have a sense of what volume of claims we’re looking at now. Where does the fund sit? We’re still waiting to hear from the province on Ontario Disaster Relief Program support. So we’ll know by the 15th. Are we sitting with a fund that’s close to a million dollars? Or are we sitting with a fund that’s greater than that. That provides us with the ability to adjust those claims based on true values and get those folks the support that they need before the holidays.”
The committee has raised 810-thousand dollars to date for their cause, and are hoping to meet a total goal of two million dollars.
