Burlington pier opens to public

After long delays and millions of dollars in cost overruns, the Brant Street Pier in Burlington is accessible to the public this morning, ahead of the city’s official grand opening scheduled for Saturday as part of the Sound of Music festival.
The Burlington Teen Tour Band will lead city council, members of the community and federal and provincial politicians onto the pier during Saturday’s official opening.
Construction was $14.4 million, about $6 million over budget because of a crane collapse and other construction problems.
The unique S-shaped pier runs 132 metres from Spencer Smith Park over Lake Ontario, providing unique views of the lake and Burlington’s shoreline.
