Burlington mother completes triathlon

It has been five months since a Burlington mother of three nearly lost her life. Gail Van Egmond went from competing in triathlons to not being able to walk. Today she competed in her first race since that near death experience.
5 months ago Gail Van Egmond didn’t know if she were going to live after giving birth to her third child, nevermind competing in a triathlon. She says, “I am just doing it so that voice in my head all summer long that kept telling me to stop, and said your not good, this is not fun, just to show it whose boss.”
Gail suffered a blood clot and uterus infection. Scott Dennis, the owner of Rock and Road Cycling, gave Gail a free bike help her get through her struggles. She raced that bike for the first time today.
With cheers from her family she knew she could make it over any hill the race put in front of her, and says “I just thought in the future of telling my kids this story.I just wanted to tell them the story I did it.I just thought my kids don‘t deserve a mom that gives up on herself.”
Gail swam 375 meters , cycled 10 km, and ran 2.5 km in an hour and 7 minutes. She says next up, she will be training over the winter with Mommies andBabes in Motion, and she plans to participate in plenty more races next spring
