A Burlington man has been charged in an animal cruelty investigation involving a raccoon.
Halton police officers went to a home in Burlington, after getting information that a man had been keeping a raccoon in the basement and was mistreating the animal.
Police say they also had information that there were multiple electrical and fire code violations in the home.
Officers executed a search warrant at the home on Jan. 20. Police were there, along with members of the fire department, animal control and EMS.
A 55-year-old man was arrested. He’s charged with causing damage or injury to an animal, breach of release order, mischief over $5,000 and keeping live game wildlife in captivity.
Police are not releasing his name.
The raccoon was found inside the home. It was seized by animal control and was euthanized because it was in poor health.
