Burlington high school hosts GSA conference

Robert Bateman high school in Burlington is hosting this year’s Gay Straight Alliance conference.
The conference is meant to create more inclusive schools across the Halton region. “Dare to stand out: generation pride” was this year’s theme, and focuses on not only on inclusivity but also on putting an end to homophobic bullying.
Superintendent Yaw Obeng says the goal is to help student thrive beyond the classroom. “We try to promote equity through inclusion and widen our cicle to include every one of our students in the HDSB. When students feel good about themselves and who they are they perform in the classroom and school community and larger society as well,” says Obeng.
Students in grades 7 through 12 from 11 different elementary schools attended today’s conference.
