Burlington to give flood victims grants for building permits

The city of Burlington is set to help homeowners looking to make repairs after this summer’s heavy flooding, with grants for building permits.
City council approved the grant program earlier this week. It’s been put in place for restoration work and work done for future flood prevention like the installation of backwater valves and sump pipes.
The program runs until December 2015.
The cost of the grants for the 3100 homes that reported damage could be as high as $1 million. Residents who want to apply can call the city’s building department.
On August 4th, more rain fell in a few hours in parts of Burlington than normally falls in two months.
