Bulldogs rookie looking to score

The hockey in Switzerland is improving by leaps and bounds and we’re seeing more and more Swiss imports in North America. The Bulldogs have one on their roster. Sven Andrighetto is in his rookie year as a pro, and he’s showing, despite a recent drought, that he can find the back of the net. Natalie Marconi reports.

20-year old Sven Andrighetto is not just trying to make a good impression in his rookie season, he’s determined to be a leader.

Sven: “I feel kind of responsible to score goals, and I didn’t in the last five games, so I gotta do it now.”

Andrighetto’s most impressive outing was against Rockford, back on October 22nd, when he found the net not once, but twice.

Head Coach Sylvan Lefebvre: “He’s hard on himself, sometimes a little too hard, but he wants to perform and do well. And he gets mad when he doesn’t!”

He may not have scored since that 2-goal game against the Icehogs, but he still leads the dogs with a plus five rating, and has assisted his teammates on four goals.

Andrighetto was a third-round draft pick of the Montreal Canadiens this past spring, 86th overall. He spent two seasons in the Quebec Junior League with the Royun-Noranda Huskies, and led his team in scoring last year with 31 goals and 67 assists. He also played for his native Switzerland at the 2013 World Junior Championships, scoring 5 goals and 3 assists in six games. Listed as a very generous five-foot-nine, Andrighetto says the biggest difference between junior and professional hockey isn’t necessarily the skill level, but the size and speed of the players: “They’re meaner too, and it’s just a different game. Is it forcing you to be meaner? Yah, of course, but that’s not my game. I try to be hard to play against and try to be shifty.”
