The New York Islanders announced on Wednesday that John Gruden, head coach of the Hamilton Bulldogs, has been named assistant coach to the team.

 

The 48 year old who had just a two season stint in Hamilton begins his NHL career alongside Stanley Cup winning head coach Barry Trotz who came over from the Washington Capitals and will also join associate coach Lane Lambert, who also worked with Trotz with the Capitals.  Gruden finishes his tenure in Hamilton with an overall coaching record of 76-45-15.

“As hard as it is to see our championship head coach leave we know this is what Junior Hockey and the OHL is all about. It’s about developing new talent to move on to the professional level.” Steve Staios, President Hamilton Bulldogs.
