Bulldogs drop a pair on the weekend

Rene Bourque has NHL ability –142 goals in his career. But at times he has been an underachiever. Bourque cleared waivers Monday and the Montreal Canadiens sent him down to the Bulldogs who lost two games on the weekend.

Hamilton took a one-goal lead into the third period on Friday “and” Saturday night against Adirondack but got burned by the Flames both times.

Two losses aren’t exactly cause for concern. But Hamilton’s record now stands at 4-6 and 2. With only a single win at home.

Davis Drewiske says the players are frustrated, and he took it upon himself to address his teammates when practice was over: “Been around the block a few times. Older, been through this kind of stretch before. It’s fine, we just have to stay together and keep working hard.”

Head coach Sylvain Lefebvre acknowledged that today’s practice was a tough one. And it included skating drills that are sometimes perceived as “punishment”, but he says that wasn’t his intent: “This team needs to play like a team and right now I don’t feel like that’s the case. So, part of it has to be done by the coaches and the other part has to been done by the players.”

And perhaps adding one more player to the team will spark some positive change.

32 year old right winger Rene Bourque cleared waivers on Monday, and was re-assigned to the Bulldogs.

The 11-year NHL veteran has 2 assists in 11 games this season — a big change after leading the Habs in playoff goals last year.
