Bugging out in Niagara

The Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls was buzzing with activity today. The “We are the Insects” exhibit opened earlier this month and has been a hit with people of all ages. It features a wide range of bugs from across the globe, some as big as your palm and others so colourful you would think they were pieces of art. A few visitors were even brave enough to hold them, including the dead goliath beetle, which is found in tropical and subtropical Africa.

The exhibit was developed by the Montreal Insectarium, one of the largest insect museums in North America. It’s divided into seven zones that showcase the important roles played by insects in our ecosystems.

The exhibit is free with admission to the conservatory, which drew large crowds this Family Day. The conservatory houses between 2 000 to 3 000 butterflies.
