If you’re a fan of Youtubers and their video’s there’s an opportunity to meet them in person and watch some of their new material in Toronto this weekend. The Buffer Festival is in its third year and some creators have become so popular they’re earning a living from their videos.

Toronto born Matthew Santoro is one Youtuber who’ll be featured at the buffer festival. He creates what he calls “edutainment and infotainment videos with a twist of comedy”. The festival highlights the best new online content Youtube has to offer. “I’d been doing this for about 4 years with little or no payoff but I just do this because I love doing this. And then after 4 years it finally took off, and I was able to pay the bills with it and now I can still pay the bills and that’s great because I’m doing what I love.”

Santoro says it’s a whole new world of making money at home.

“The way that you make that living is with the ads that pop up on Youtube and once you get enough views on those video’s you run ads on those videos.”

Adande Thorne otherwise known as “Swoozie” on Youtube says his videos are about personal experiences. Swoozie has about three and a half million subscribers.
“I make 5 figures a month. So what I used to make a year as a lifeguard I make that in a month at Youtube now.”

Nadine Sykora of Vancouver says she’s been creating Youtube video’s since she was 19. She’s now 27 and it’s a full time job under the brand heynadine.com. She has advice to wanna be Youtubers. “It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon and you should be doing it because you have this creative urge and need to express yourself in video form.”
