With the cut of a ribbon, The Brink location on Upper James is officially reopened. A $1.6 million renovation gives them a more modern look, as well as a bigger storefront. For consumers that means a wider selection of products.

“When they come to our dining area and mattress area, instead of just looking at the different options, it’s a whole new experience now from A to Z,” says Aaron Bathgate, director of stores for The Brick.

And that experience, of course, includes a re-vamped electronics department.

“It’s state of the art. We have a 90-inch television sitting beside an 80-inch television, sitting beside a huge home theatre sound system,” says Cam Hill, store manager of the newly-renovated location. “It’s unbelievable.”

But this reopening of The Brick on Upper James doesn’t just mean a better selection of appliances, couches and beds. It also means more jobs. Nearly 50 jobs, in fact, including the Upper James location and the new store on Barton.

“(They’re) all Hamilton jobs, so we’re really excited about that. Lots of business is coming in the door, so we hope the business keeps growing, and we’ll be adding more people,” says Bathgate.

As the band plays, there’s a feeling of optimism at The Brick — optimism that this expansion will also cut the ribbon on a brighter future.
