Brantford Transit is getting a big investment from the three levels of government.

The federal, provincial and municipal governments are putting in a total of more than $13 million.

The money will fund four public transit and infrastructure projects.

“Better public transit systems have a clear correlation to improved economies and better opportunities for people living, working and at play in urban areas,” said Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis in a statement.

The transit service will purchase 21 new buses to replace the aging fleet, including both conventional and para-transit buses.

New fare boxes that use smart card technology will be installed.

Bus pads and shelters will be replaced with safer ones that are fully accessible.

Finally, upgrades will be made to the transit maintenance facility.

The city is investing about $3.7 million in the projects.

The province is giving $4.6 million, with the federal government providing $5.5 million.
