Brampton man facing 48 charges in five random shootings

A Brampton man is facing dozens of charges in connection to five shootings in Toronto.

Adam Abdi, 20, was arrested on Monday and is facing 48 charges including seven counts of attempted murder.

Police say the shootings took place between Jan. 9 and Jan. 21 primarily in the northwest part of the city.

The first incident happened around 4 p.m. in the Rathburn Rd. and The West Mall area. Police say a 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl were standing inside the hallway of a building when they were approached by a man with a gun. The man began shooting multiple rounds at the pair before he fled the scene.

The next three shootings happened in the area of Finch Ave. West and Islington Ave. On Jan 16, a 47-year-old man was standing outside when a man walked up and shot him. Four days later, a 20-year-old man was walking outside when he was approached by a man in a vehicle. The man got out of the vehicle and began shooting at the victim.

The following day, a 35-year-old-man and a four-year-old girl were in a parked vehicle around 3:30 p.m. A man with a gun exited another vehicle and began shooting at the man and child.

Just over an hour later, a 19-year-old man was walking near Rathburn Rd. and Renforth Dr. when he was approached by a man in a vehicle. The man rolled down the window and began shooting at the victim.

Police say none of the shootings were fatal, but at least one of the victims had serious injuries.

Abdi appeared in a Toronto courtroom on Monday.
