Tim Bosma’s truck key and receipts for a livestock incinerator were found in Dellen Millard’s SUV after his arrest, a court heard today. Millard and Mark Smich are on trial for the first degree murder of Tim Bosma.
At the beginning of the day we heard more from the Niagara forensics officer who examined Bosma’s truck, which we heard was found in a trailer in front of Dellen Millard’s mother’s house. She showed some of the photos she took of blood spatters, heavily concentrated in the passenger side of the truck, where prosecutors say Tim Bosma was sitting when he was shot. Even though the front seats and carpeting were ripped out of Bosma’s truck, police found lots of evidence of blood, particularly on the glove box and cup holder on the passenger side, but also on the muffler and on parts of the truck’s undercarriage.
During cross examination, Mark Smich’s lawyer, Thomas Dungey, seemed testy and was even yelling at points asking about whether the truck and trailer were appropriately protected evidence. When forensics officers first started their exam, the truck was in a commercial repair facility, separated from the mechanics by only a strip of police tape. The mechanics pulled out their phones when the spectacle of officers walked in. The next day the evidence was moved to an OPP facility.
Later in the day another forensics officer testified about examining Dellen Millard’s blue Yukon GMC. It was a mess of garbage and Dellen Millard’s id cards were in a pile. But on the stack of keys in the ignition was Tim Bosma’s truck key and in a pile of paperwork the June, 2012 receipt for a livestock incinerator totaling more than $15 000.
The livestock incinerator was found on Dellen Millard’s farm, it had Tim Bosma’s bones inside. We expect to hear more about this huge, uncommon machine in the days to come.
