Bootz: helping Hamilton’s homeless

A group of Hamilton residents helped the homeless and less fortunate in the city earlier today.
Volunteers with the charity Being Out on the Streetz (Bootz) handed out free clothing, snacks and hot drinks to people in need. The organization’s Justin Shaver says the response from the community has been overwhelming.
“Donating clothing, people have done that, they say they’d much rather give it to this than… to Value Village or something, but they enjoy the feeling they get by being able to give something.”
“And the people that are collecting it are getting the donations down here. We’ve had so many people that are so grateful, they’ve only taken what they need. We’ve tried to give them more and (they say) ‘no, save it for someone else.'”
Local businesses have also pitched in and donated clothing and food. The charity says they hope to continue this initiative two to three times a year.
