Body of missing swimmer found

After nearly a week of searching, the body of a missing swimmer has been recovered at the Binbrook Conservation Area.

Peter Simon, age 47 of Hamilton was training for a triathlon the evening of June 8 with a group of friends.  Four went into Lake Niapenco but only three came out.

Simon’s body found was spotted Sunday morning by a Niagara Conservation Authority staff member, and the Hamilton Police marine unit recovered it a short while later.

Simon lived on Hamilton mountain and worked in logistics for courier firm DHL.

The lake is a popular spot for athletes training to swim in open water.
