Body found at Niagara power station identified as missing Hamilton resident

Niagara police have canceled a news conference that was scheduled for Thursday morning after receiving new information in a death investigation.
On Tuesday, police said they would be providing an update on the investigation into human remains that were located at a power generating station two years ago.
The remains were discovered by employees of the Sir Adam Beck Power Generating Station at 14000 Niagara Parkway in Niagara-On-The-Lake on Dec. 11, 2019.
Investigators worked with Ontario Provincial Police forensic artist Det. Cst. Duncan Way and completed a 3D facial approximation of the person.
On Thursday, police issued a news release stating the news conference had been canceled because new information emerged after the facial approximation was shared with other jurisdictions.
“As a result of further investigation, the identity of the deceased was confirmed through the use of dental records and linked to an open missing person investigation with the Hamilton Police Service,” said Niagara police in a news release.
Hamilton police say the person was reported missing in 2018 but they did not provide any further information regarding the person’s identity.
Investigators said the next of kin has been notified and at the request of family members, no further information will be provided.
The death has been deemed non-suspicious.
