Boating Safety

Many people were enjoying the end of the long weekend by getting out on the water today, but they weren’t alone. The Marine Unit were out patrolling the Hamilton Harbour reminding boaters about safety and making sure everyone was playing by the rules.
There are a few essentials that every boater should and actually has to have on their boat. Most importantly, a life jacket, then you need a flashlight with a working battery, a whistle, a throw line in case someone goes overboard and if your boat is more than 20 feet long, a flare gun. The Marine unit is out on the water every day, they say while many are not fully prepared with the right equipment, they are aware of the rules when it comes to cruising and boozing.
The rules for impaired boating are the same as impaired driving.
