Boaters rescued on Lake Ontario

A sailboat capsized in Lake Ontario this evening. But the young sailors were rescued — thanks to a quick response by employees at the Bronte Harbour Marina.
The lake was fairly choppy at the time. A call came into the marina with reports of two boys on the water who looked like they were struggling. Their “29’er” flipped and they started swimming towards the shore. But when they were around 100 metres from shore — they started blowing their whistles and waving. So that’s when Dan Miller and another marina employee grabbed a boat and went after them.
Dan Miller: “We just jumped right to it. Went to the work boat. Grabbed a couple of life jackets. Made our way out there. It was a little rough getting out there, getting to them. The swells were about 8 to 10 feet out there. We got them. Got out there pretty quickly. Hauled them into the boat.”
Miller says the boys were OK and were more worried about getting their boat back. It was eventually towed in by the Halton Police Marine Unit. You can see how mangled the mast is.
