Board suspends ‘banana’ teacher

The teacher accused of making a student eat a banana that had been thrown away, has been relieved of her duties.
In a statement the Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud said Renee Oettershagen’s actions reflected poor judgement.
“Although the teacher has apologized, her behaviour is unacceptable and does not meet CSDCCS standards in terms of professional ethics, as expected from all of its teaching staff.”
“The CSDCCS regrets that this incident has taken place and sends its sincere apologies to Peighton and her family.”
It started with a strange email exchange last week between Jordan Stewart and her daughter’s teacher, Renee Oettershagen, who was trying to find out who in the class had thrown away a banana.
As soon as they heard, the Stewarts drove here to St Marie School in Simcoe to speak to officials, but say they weren’t taken seriously.
The local Children’s Aid Society is also investigating the case.
