Bloc threatens action after Trudeau allows ultimatum deadline to pass

On Parliament Hill, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau allowed another so-called “deadline” to pass today.

Last month, the Bloc Québécois gave the federal government an ultimatum, calling for the passing of two separate bills, or be faced with a potential ousting.

Bloc leader, Yves-François Blanchet, says he will be talking with the opposition parties for the possible upheaval, after stating the Trudeau Liberals did not respect the deadline on bills for old age security payment increases, and agricultural protections.

“I’m ready for an election,” Blanchet said. “This is one of the reasons we said five weeks ago, that we’re giving everyone five weeks to accept and pass the bills, which they didn’t do.”

But, Blanchet did not entirely rule out discussions with the Liberal party after today’s failure to meet expectations, given they are willing to meet demands.

Meanwhile, Trudeau’s cabinet came to their leader’s defence after rejecting the 24 caucus members, who are calling for a secret leadership vote.

Despite all the pressure, non-confidence votes from the Bloc and the Conservatives won’t be enough to topple the Liberals.
