Blaring horn sound puzzles downtown Hamilton residents

A loud, blaring sound caused quite a commotion in downtown Hamilton Monday night.
Questions and speculation about the sound took over Reddit’s Hamilton page with one user describing the noise as “unbearably loud.” Several other residents suggested the sound could be heard from the Hamilton Mountain.
#Hamont are we being invaded by #aliens or is it the #train horn stuck?!

It started around 8:30 p.m. and went silent for a short period of time before starting back up again.
According to a Twitter post, the sound was from a malfunctioning horn on a GO Train in the city.
“We looked into it and our control centre said one of our trains in the area unfortunately had a malfunctioning horn, something that is pretty rare,” said Nitish Bissonauth, Metrolinx Media Relations. “We fixed it fairly quickly (we are told within 15-20 min) but it was understandably annoying for residents, for that we apologize.”
