Black bear on prowl in Halton
Video added A bear sighting caught police off guard yesterday in Milton.
A cattle farmer called Halton police in the afternoon to report a 400-pound black bear in the area of Sixth Line and Lower Base Line. When two police officers arrived at the scene, the bear ran towards them, catching the officers off guard. The bear then ran off before the officers could shoot it.
The Ministry of Natural Resources has been contacted regarding the sighting. Halton police say they get at least one call a year about a bear sighting but this is the first time one has come so close.
There is no indication the bear has caused any harm to people or cattle.
