Birthday party held for Hamilton woman turning 108

Hamilton resident Ann Konkel marked another milestone birthday on Friday, turning 108 in the company of family and friends.

A celebration was held for Konkel in the courtyard at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Charlton Avenue where she has lived for the past three years.

Mounted Hamilton police officers were there to pass on their congratulations, along with hospital staff and members of Konkel’s family, including her son Chuck and his wife.

Konkel’s granddaughter Laura says Konkel’s love for the city runs deep even though she wasn’t born here.

Konkel has lived in Hamilton for over 70 years.

She was born in the Netherlands in 1915 and moved to the city with her family in 1952.
