Biking for breast cancer

A seven-year old girl is leaving her peers in the dust, literally.
Rachel White just completed a three day bike ride to raise money for breast cancer screening.
80 kilometres, 13 hours, and just seven-years old. Rachel White arrived in Dundas, tired, but glowing.
“We went to Toronto at the CN Tower and we were biking back to here and we had to do it in three days.”
Three days of cycling with stops in Mississauga, Oakville and Burlington.
“She’s just got stronger and stronger and stronger. To the point where coming down Coote’s Paradise she was going 25 kilometres an hour down the path, off the saddle, yelling, i’m flying!” says her stepdad Greg Dawson.
An impressive feat for such a little girl, but even more impressive is the reason behind it.
“I felt proud of myself that i was doing it for my grandma and I’m happy i did it,” she says.
Rachel’s grandma died of breast cancer this year, so she decided to raise money in her honour.
Rachel and her parents have collected pledges raising roughly $3,000. All of that money will go to the Ontario breast screening program in Hamilton.
“My mum wanted to try and help there before she passed. It was her choice to try and do what we could for other people going through what she went through,” says Rachel’s mom Melissa.
Preserving her grandma’s memory, and helping a cause that was close to her heart.
