Today marks two years since George Floyd was killed by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt on his neck for nearly 10 minutes in May 2020.

Video recorded by a bystander showed Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, lying on his stomach during an arrest. He was desperately pleading for police to let him breathe and calling for his mother before he lost consciousness.

His death led to an international protest movement against police treatment of Black people.

All four officers involved were fired and charged after Floyd’s death.

U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to sign an executive order on police reform in a White House ceremony today.

Family members of George Floyd will be there, as well as the family of Breonna Taylor and Elijah McClain, who were both killed by police.

Biden’s order will create a national database of police misconduct that will be used by all federal law enforcement agencies.
