Beginnings of a man~cave for sale

On a wet weekend like this, some people will spend the weekend inside perhaps doing a little work around the house. And if you’re considering adding a man-cave your abode, this next story is for you. Everything you need will sell at auction this Sunday at the Ancaster Fairgrounds. As Sean Leathong tells us, it’s also a chance to carry on one beer lover’s life long collection.

It’s a man cave starter kit. They have all the signs, and the taps. Jennifer Cianciolo-Dickenson is with the Preferred Auction Company: “We’re thrilled to be doing a man cave auction, something that we think is fun.”

And for the true collector, its a big chance to buy small pieces of beer history.

Jennifer: “We collected the man cave to support the glass, but the star of the show, is the glass.”

Beer glasses, from Canada, the U.S., and Europe, all available at one auction, all collected by this man, Emerson Wilson: “I get excited, I see a new glass, I’d just have to have it.”

The Dundas native spent over fifty years adding to his collection. Sometimes driving across North America. And other times, driving just down the street: “It gave me a certain sense of pride.”

Emerson has since downsized, which is why the majority will be up for sale, but he still keeps a few on hand: “This is a brewery is Utica, Utica club. Harpoon IPA, that’s in Boston.”

Displayed in front of me are about a hundred of Emersons glasses from his collection, that’s only about 5 percent of the total of two thousand. All of which will be on sale this Sunday.”

Most of the glasses are packed away in a trailer until the live auction begins, 11am at the Ancaster Fairgrounds. A big store for those who want to add to the man cave.

Jennifer: “And if you haven’t built one yet, this is the place to start.”

But for the buyer, Emerson has some advice: “Make sure you have enough room, cause I ran out of room.”

Emerson said that he’s happy that the tradition will be carried on after the auction. And if you’re interested in carrying on that tradition, a reminder that it’s 11am at the Ancaster Fairgrounds.
