Beamsville District Secondary School has been a staple in the community over the decades. After 134 years, it will be closing and a new mega-high school is slated to open in nearby Grimsby.

Former staff, students, and teachers gathered on Saturday at the high school to say goodbye.

Joyce Gillespie took a stroll down memory lane in the office where she was the head secretary back in the 80s and 90s, “we had a lot of fun every day, we got a lot of work done but we had a lot of fun too,” Gillespie said.

The current building was built in 1917, over time it’s been updated but the pillars at the front of the school are still standing.

While the memories will live on, the building won’t. The school will eventually be shut down.

The new mega-school in Grimsby called West Niagara Secondary was supposed to open this September, but that has been pushed back to an undetermined time.
